Safeguarding Adults Week is led yearly by the Ann Craft Trust and is an opportunity for organisations, communities and individuals to come together, raise awareness and strengthen the way we prevent and respond to abuse and neglect. Learning from the ‘Courtney’ SAR
This session will look at the learning points from the Courtney SAR report and raise awareness of the themes of concern. Presenters: Rachel Craig (NYSAB), supported by: Dee Rodgers and Chris Wearing (TEWV) and Jo Smith (HAS). Presenter: Rachel Murphy, Research Manager within North Yorkshire’s Health Determinants Research Collaboration. The themes covered will include:
- Understanding diagnosis and the importance of needs-led assessments
- Mental capacity and ‘masking’
- Cultural competence in social work
- Responses to risk

A Window of Missed Opportunity?
This session explores an often overlooked safeguarding and public health issue: how mental health services can better support non-offending adults who experience sexual attraction to children. Attendees will gain insight into:
- The mental health needs of this population.
- Barriers to help-seeking and service engagement.
- Risks faced by individuals and risks posed to others.
- Practical considerations for safeguarding, prevention and intervention.
- How research can inform practice and improve outcomes.
This webinar is suitable for professionals working across health, social care, safeguarding, mental health, public protection and partner agencies.

The team and NYSAB partners will also be out in the community holding stands where you can get information about safeguarding. Details of where we will be will follow.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (NYFR) are hosting a number of sessions with topics broadened to include flood prevention, wildfire and winter safety. NYFR will be joined by a variety of partners presenting with them, including Warm & Well, Community Pharmacy, the Environment Agency and the Chartered Institute of Housing. These sessions are designed specifically for professionals and provide a great opportunity to develop knowledge and awareness across a range of topics.
