Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.
Changing the Narrative on Suicide, encourages us to challenge stigma, increase understanding and create a culture where people feel able to talk openly and seek support. The call to action this year is to “Start the Conversation”. Because every conversation matters.
Suicide can affect anyone, regardless of age, background or circumstances. Many people who are struggling may feel isolated or unsure where to turn for support. Being aware of the signs that someone may be struggling and knowing where to find help can make a real difference. You don’t need to be an expert to support someone. Small actions, such as having a conversation, offering support or encouraging someone to access professional help, can help to create hope when it is needed most.
If you’re worried about somebody, a conversation, a message or simply showing that you care could make a difference. Samaritans’ campaign message is that suicidal thoughts can be interrupted and that taking action could help save a life.
