Every Week is Safeguarding Week

As Safeguarding week comes to a close, we are reflecting on what has been an incredible opportunity to share knowledge, raise awareness and strengthen our collective commitment to protecting adults across North Yorkshire. From insightful webinars from the Ann Craft Trust to practical resources, this week has showcased the power of working together to safeguard people. In particular, a main highlight has been being out and about in the community and talking to people to raise awareness.

Celebrating what we did

Across North Yorkshire we held stalls in every corner of the county! These were hosted by staff across the NSYAB team, our Keeping Safe Champion, NHS staff, Healthwatch, Health and Adult Services staff and Community Safety partners.  We spoke to many people, some who were seeking advice or guidance or some were just interested to learn more. Of course people also wanted to come and play our games and prizes! But, we couldn’t have achieved this week without the dedication of our partners and the engagement of the public. As a result, we were able to demonstrates the strength of our communities and commitment to safeguarding.

Adrian Green, Independent NYSAB Chair summed up the week as follows:

“Everyone should feel safe and supported throughout their lives. Safeguarding Week is a great opportunity in North Yorkshire to step up our prevention focus, challenge how we think about safeguarding and help protect people from abuse and neglect before it happens. The North Yorkshire SAB has actively supported this year’s national Safeguarding Adults week campaign with the theme of prevention. It is a great opportunity for people involved in safeguarding to refresh and update their knowledge and practice. It is also key time to raise awareness for people with care and support needs, their families, and carers and an opportunity for the NYSAB to engage with our communities. As Independent Chair this has been a fantastic effect and I would like to personally thank those invited in supporting the campaign for their energy and contribution”.

Keeping the Conversation Going

However, Safeguarding isn’t just a one week campaign, it is a continuous responsibility. Prevention must remain at the heart of everything we do, every day. So, continue to think more about prevention by checking out some of these short blogs from the Ann Craft Trust:

And don’t forget to share your examples of good practice. Celebrating this helps us learn and create a safer cultures for everybody. If you have a story to share, contact: nysab@northyorks.gov.uk
