Earlier this month (10 October) the Local Government Association and University of Nottingham Rights Lab jointly published a newly released guide aimed at commissioning officers and managers within council adult social care teams. It provides advice on to how to set up effective local systems to identify and manage the risks of modern slavery in adult social care. It recommends establishing effective ways of communicating plans both to other internal stakeholders, and to appropriate representatives from external organisations including any providers who deliver or supervise care on the behalf of councils.
This guide is accompanied by an online webinar on Tuesday 31 October, 10:30am – 12:00pm. This will showcase some of the specific risks related to care work and present an overview of the risk assessment and due diligence practices that councils are adopting in response to the challenges emerging from an increase in overseas recruitment across the sector, the repayment of recruitment fees and unsafe working conditions.
